H M Library ranked 15th by UGC
VADODARA: The Shrimati Hansa Mehta Library of M S University (MSU) has been ranked 15th from among 180 libraries of the country by the University Grants Commission's Infonet Digital Library Consortium.
H M Library is the only one from Gujarat to get its name listed among the top 20 libraries of the country followed by the library of Sardar Patel University which has been ranked 38 and found its name in top 50 libraries.
"Presently, UGC Infonet provides access to over 8,000 e-journals. Based on the usage done by respective libraries, the consortium has ranked the libraries. This will help the libraries in getting additional grants for their development. Our library has been ranked 15th - for the year 2010 which is higher compared to the year before when our library was ranked 26th," says university librarian Mayank Trivedi.
Started with the aim to provide e-resources covering almost all subject disciplines including arts, humanities, social sciences, physical sciences, chemical sciences, life sciences, computer sciences, mathematics and statistics, the consortium is wholly funded by the UGC and executed by the INFLIBNET (Information and Library Network) Centre.
According to the usage statistics released by the consortium, a total of 1,38,000 articles have been downloaded by researchers and users at the H M Library.
With over eight lakh books, the library that has 18,000 students registered and has a daily transaction of 300 books has also seen an increase in the corporate membership in recent times. During financial year, 2010-11 the library had bagged Rs two crore grant for its development.
